
EVP, Head of Oncology (all genders)
About the role
Senior scientific and strategic leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the R&D strategy within the oncology therapeutic area and leading strategic partnerships to build a competitive and differentiated pipeline.
Role operates in a matrix environment and must influence internal and external stakeholders to position Evotec as a leader in oncology.
Responsibilities
- Accountable and responsible for the overarching strategy to develop an internal pipeline of state-of-the-art oncology technology platforms and assets, for partnering with pharma and biotech companies, and for creation of spin-out companies; leads strategic collaborations.
- Provide strategic guidance and oncology drug discovery expertise to broaden and develop the product candidate pipeline and meet research and commercial collaboration goals.
- Serve as line manager for the Oncology RnD team and Evotec’s BMS-Onco core team.
- Lead strategic development of Evotec’s Innovate Oncology and platform portfolio and drive next-generation, commercially promising innovations.
- Propose, defend and manage the R&D budget for internal oncology asset development.
- Provide disease know-how and drug discovery expertise in support of Evotec’s internal oncology R&D.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with collaborators and Evotec staff to keep collaborations and internal projects on plan.
- Set aligned goals for team members to drive performance and foster development and growth.
- Provide scientific leadership and work with Operations, Key Account Management and Business Development to shape and convert R&D projects into partnerships.
- Collaborate constructively across functions and disciplines at different Evotec sites to deliver agreed goals.
- Represent Evotec at customer events, scientific conferences, consortia, and through peer-reviewed publications.
Requirements
- PhD degree in molecular biology/biochemistry or a similar life science subject is required.
- Several years of cancer biology expertise in drug discovery and development, with high scientific rigor and excellent leadership skills.
- Solid strategic and technical understanding of the pharma R&D value chain and project deliverables, with in-depth oncology subject matter expertise.
- In-depth practical knowledge of pharmaceutical drug discovery and development from target ID to IND filing, including translational science expertise.
- Proven leadership as an organizer of cross-departmental and multi-site activities and extensive experience working effectively within collaborations.
- Excellent leadership, networking and project management skills to act as a key strategic and scientific driver of internal and external activities.
- Flexible working style with adaptability for time-efficient troubleshooting, proactive identification of improvements and innovations, experience in resource monitoring, and very strong communication skills.

Advanced expertise in cancer biology, translational science and the drug discovery-to-IND process, combined with leadership, networking and project management skills.
